Systems used to monitor the maritime environment are always vulnerable to cyber attacks or power outages. Today’s maritime professionals need a stand-alone solution they can count on to maintain a solid common operating picture (COP). DECODIO RED software has now added two maritime protocols to its stack, the widely used Automatic Identification System (AIS) and the Automatic Transmitter Identification System (ATIS). AIS is used throughout the global maritime sector for ship tracking, while ATIS is a niche protocol used on vessels within the Trans-European Waterway Network. While many internet sites provide tracking of these protocols, if you don't have an internet connection, Decodio RED can still capture, record, and decode both protocols, enabling professionals to maintain a basic situational awareness with a stand-alone system.
DECODIO RED will display the AIS positions and log the decoding data (ship speed, MMSI, country code, etc). For ATIS, the software decodes and displays the caller ID and country code, useful for lock and bridge authorities. While RED can never replace a traditional Maritime Traffic Control System, it can be used as an emergency supplement. Have a larger area to cover? RED can also be used in a remote mode with multiple sensors to spread the monitoring range. RED can also monitor critical VHF frequencies, such as Channel 16, to ensure communications stay smooth.
